Game Play

Only the top card of the waste pile is available for play onto a foundation pile. When a 5 or 6 becomes available for play, move it from the waste pile to start a foundation pile. There will be a total of eight foundation piles, four that start with a 5 and four that start with a 6. Foundation piles that start with a 5 are built in descending order to the ace, in suit: an ace may be played on a king to continue this sequence: 5-4-3-2-ace-king. To add a card to a 5 foundation pile, it must be one rank lower and of the same suit as the top card of the pile it is being played on. Foundation piles that start with a 6 are built in ascending order to the jack, in suit: 6-7-8-9-10-jack. To add a card to a 6 foundation pile, it must be one rank higher and of the same suit as the top card of the pile it is being played on. When a queen becomes available for play, discard the queen onto the queen discard pile.

If the top card of the waste pile cannot be played, or the waste pile is empty, flip the top card of the stock over to form or add to the waste pile. When the stock is depleted, you may redeal. To redeal, flip the entire waste pile over to reform the stock. You may redeal twice per game. When there are no more moves after the stock is depleted a third time, the game is over.

To Win

Captive Queens is won if all cards from the stock and waste are built onto the foundation piles, and the four queens are discarded. If there are no more moves after the stock is depleted a third time and not all cards are on the foundation piles, the game is lost.
