How to Play Zigzag Course Solitaire

Zigzag course solitaire is a difficult solitaire game using two decks of playing cards.

Objective

The objective of zigzag course solitaire is to build the aces up to king in suit, and the king down to aces in suit.

Setup

Remove an ace of each suit and a king of each suit from the deck and place above the tableau to form the eight foundation piles. Deal the remaining cards into 12 tableau piles with eight cards each splayed down.

Game Play

Foundation piles may only have 13 cards, and all cards must be of the same suit. To add a card to an ace foundation pile, it must be of the same suit and one rank higher than the top card. To add a card to a king foundation pile, it must be of the same suit and one rank lower than the top card.

The top card of each tableau is available for play, either onto a foundation pile or onto another tableau pile. Only one card at a time may be moved. Tableau piles may be built up or down in sequence as long as it is the same suit. To play an available card onto another tableau pile, it must be of the same suit and either one rank higher or one rank lower than the top card of the tableau pile it is being played onto.

To Win

To win zigzag course solitaire, all foundation piles must be complete, with the ace foundation piles being built to kings in suit, and the king foundation piles being built down to aces in suit.
