How to Play Three Fir-Trees Solitaire
Three Fir-Trees Solitaire Rules
| Players: 1 | Type: Solitaire | Supplies: 2 Decks |
Objective
The objective of Three Fir-Trees is to discard all cards from the tableau to the waste pile.
Setup
Deal three fir-trees to form the tableau. To deal a fir-tree, deal 11 rows, with every row overlapping the one before it. The first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh rows have one card each. The second, fourth, sixth, eighth, and tenth rows have two cards each. Each fir-tree will have 16 cards. Place the remaining deck face down to form the stock. Flip the top card of the stock over to form the waste pile.
Game Play
All uncovered cards, which are any cards that do not have another card overlapping them, from each fir-tree are
available for play onto the waste pile. Suits do not matter in this game. If an available card is one rank higher or one
rank lower than the top card of the waste pile, discard that card onto the waste pile. For example, since the top card
of the waste pile is the 3 of diamonds, you could either discard the 4 of clubs or the 2 of hearts. Kings may be
discarded on aces and aces may be discarded on kings.
When there are no more available moves the player wants to make, flip the top card of the stock over and add it to the
waste pile. The game is over if all cards are discarded from the tableau or when the stock is depleted and there are no
more available moves.
To Win
Three Fir-Trees is won if all cards are discarded to the waste pile. If there are no more moves after the stock is depleted and there are still cards in the tableau, the game is lost.
