How to Play One Handed Solitaire

One Handed Solitaire Rules

| Players: 1 | Type: Solitaire | Supplies: 1 Deck |

Objective

The objective of One Handed is to discard as many cards from the deck as possible.

Setup

Deal a row of four overlapping cards splayed out. Place the remaining deck face down or in your hand to form the stock.

Game Play

Only the top card and the fourth card from the top matter for playing. If the top card and the fourth card from the top match in rank, discard the top four cards. If the top card and the fourth card from the top match in suit, discard the two cards between them. For example, since the top card is the 8 of clubs, and it matches the suit of the fourth card from the top, the 9 of clubs, you would discard the two cards in the middle, the 3 of hearts and the 5 of diamonds. You would then deal two more cards on top of the pile.

If there are fewer than four cards, replenish the row back up to four. If the top card and the fourth card from the top do not match in suit or rank, deal one more card to the top. When a card is dealt, or cards are discarded, be mindful of which card is on top and which is now the fourth card from the top. The game is over when the stock is depleted and there are no more moves.

To Win

One Handed is won if all cards are discarded from the deck. If there are no more moves after the stock is depleted, and there are still cards in the pile, the game is lost.

Variants

An additional rule you may add is if the top four cards are all the same suit, you may choose to either discard the two cards in between the top card and the fourth card from the top, or discard all four top cards that match in suit.

You may also keep score. When the stock is depleted, count how many cards you could not discard. The lower the score, the better.
