Objective

The objective of Demon Fan is to build the four foundation piles from the ace in ascending order to the king, in suit.

Setup

Deal 17 tableau piles, with three cards each, splayed down, placing the top card face up and the bottom two cards face down. Place the single remaining card face up to form the 18th tableau pile. Leave room for four foundation piles.

Game Play

As an ace becomes available for play, move it above the tableau to form a foundation pile. There will be four foundation piles. These foundation piles are built from the ace in ascending order to the king, in suit. To add a card to a foundation pile, it must be one rank higher and of the same suit as the top card of the foundation pile it is being moved onto.

Only the top card of each tableau pile is available for play either onto a foundation pile or another tableau pile. Tableau piles may be built in descending order and alternating color. To add a card from one tableau pile to another, it must be one rank lower and of the opposite color to the top card of the pile it is being moved to. For example, you could move the 8 of spades onto the 9 of diamonds since the 8 of spades is one rank lower and of the opposite color.

When the top card of a tableau pile is face down, flip it face up. Following the previous example, since the 8 of spades was moved to another tableau pile, flip the top card of the pile it was moved from face up. When a tableau pile becomes empty, it may not be filled.

When there are no more available moves, you may redeal the tableau. To redeal, flip all cards in the tableau piles face down. Place the top left pile on top of the pile to its right, continuing this pattern until all tableau piles are gathered into one pile. Then, redeal the tableau piles, with three cards per pile, only having the top card face up. If the last tableau pile has three cards in it after the redeal, take the top card of this pile and make one more tableau pile. You may redeal six times per game. If the stock is depleted a seventh time and there are no more moves, or the foundation piles are fully built up to the kings, the game is over.

To Win

Demon Fan is won if all cards are played onto the foundation piles. If there are no more moves after the stock is depleted a seventh time and the foundation piles are incomplete, the game is lost.
