How to Play Box Kite Solitaire
Box kite solitaire uses two decks of playing cards and starts with all cards dealt to the tableau.
Box Kite Solitaire Rules
| Players: 1 | Type: Solitaire | Supplies: 2 Decks |
Objective
The objective of box kite solitaire is to move all cards to the foundation piles.
Setup
You will need 2 decks. Remove a total of four aces and four kings from the decks. Lay out a row of four aces, one of
each suit, to form the ace foundation piles. Underneath the row of aces, lay out a row of four kings, one of each suit,
to form the king foundation piles.
There will be 12 tableau piles of 8 cards each. Each tableau pile will have all cards face down, except for the top
card, which will be face up. Place a row of four tableau piles above the ace foundation piles, and place a row of four
tableau piles below the king foundation piles. Place a column of two tableau piles to the left of the foundation piles,
and a column of two tableau piles to the right of the foundation piles.
Game Play
The ace foundation piles may only be built up in sequence from ace to king, one suit per pile. The king foundation piles
may only be built down in sequence from king to ace, one suit per pile. There may not be more than 13 cards per
foundation pile.
Only the top card of a tableau pile may be moved. The top card may be moved onto a foundation pile according to the
above rules. The top card of a tableau pile may be moved to another tableau pile as long as it is one rank higher, or
one rank lower, than the card it is being moved on top of. Suits do not matter when building on the tableau piles.
Aces may be played on kings and kings may be played on aces. Sequences may not be moved, only one card at a time may be
moved. When a face down card becomes the top card of a pile, it is flipped up. When a tableau pile becomes empty, no
card may fill the empty spot.
Game play continues until there are no more moves available.
To Win
To win box kite solitaire, the player must build all eight foundation piles. If the player runs out of moves, and the foundation piles are incomplete, the game is lost.
