How to Play Beehive Solitaire

Beehive solitaire is a solitaire matching card game.

Beehive Solitaire Rules

| Players: 1 | Type: Solitaire | Supplies: 1 Deck |

Objective

The objective of Beehive is to get all the cards into matching sets of four based on rank.

Setup

Make a stack of ten face-up cards; this is called the beehive. Then, lay out two rows of three face up cards to make a grid of six cards. The remaining deck is placed face-down in front of you to form the stock.

Game Play

Cards are matched within the six-card grid. The order of priority for matching cards in the grid is:

  1. 1. The other cards in the grid.
  2. 2. The beehive
  3. 3. The deck's discard pile

The game starts by making any available matches within the grid by stacking similarly ranked cards onto each other. Whenever you get a set of four matching cards in one pile, discard that pile.

When a space opens up in the six-card grid, either from removing a completed stack or matching cards within the grid, the top card from the beehive takes this space. After all matches are made from within the grid and using the top card of the beehive, use the stock. Take the top three cards from the deck and flip them face-up into a discard pile. If the top card of the discard pile can be matched to any stack in the grid, do so; otherwise, flip another three cards onto the discard pile. When the deck runs out, flip the discard pile over and continue to flip through the deck in increments of three, trying to use the top card of the discard pile.

When the beehive runs out, or can't be used and there is available space on the grid, the top card of the discard pile is then used to fill any empty spaces.

To Win

If you discard the entire deck in matching stacks of four, you win. If you cycle through the deck without making a move, the game is lost.
