How to Play Aces Up Solitaire

This soilitaire aces up game is a challenging one deck solitaire game. Aces up solitiare rules are simple, however the game is difficult to beat.

Aces Up Solitaire Rules

| Players: 1 | Type: Solitaire | Supplies: 1 Deck |

Objective

The objective of Aces Up is to discard all cards from the tableau until only the four aces remain. When cards match in suit, the lower-ranking card is discarded.

Setup

Deal a row of four face-up cards to form the four tableau piles. Place the remaining deck face-down to form the stock.

Card Rank

(Highest Rank) Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 (Lowest Rank)

Ace is the highest rank of each suit, followed by the king, queen, and continuing in descending order down to the 2.

Game Play

Only the top card of each of the four tableau piles is available for play. If two cards available for play match in suit, discard the card with the lowest rank. For example, discard the 5 of diamonds since it is of the same suit as the queen of diamonds, and of a lower rank. If there are more than two cards available for play that match in suit, keep the card with the highest rank and discard the other cards of that suit with a lower rank. When a tableau pile becomes empty, any top card of another tableau pile may be moved to fill this empty space.

When no more moves are available, deal one card onto each of the four tableau piles, regardless of whether that pile has cards or not. Continue to remove the lowest card in matching suits. When the stock is depleted and there are no more available moves, the game is over.

To Win

If all cards are discarded except for the four aces, the game is won. If the player runs out of available moves and has more than the four aces remaining in the tableau, the game is lost.

Variation

Firing Squad is a variation of Aces Up where all rules are the same; however, you also have one reserve cell. Any available card may be moved to the reserve cell. This cell may only hold one card at a time. Once a card is moved here, it may only be moved back to an empty tableau pile. Cards in the tableau may not be discarded due to being of the same suit and a lower rank than the card in the reserve cell, and the card in the reserve cell may not be discarded based on cards in the tableau. It is considered out of play until it is moved back to an empty tableau pile.
